Mummification

Walt: write an information report.
Mummification

The Ancient Egyptians mummified their dead. First the organs were removed, all exempt the heart. Next the body was salted and dried. After that cloth was stuffed inside the body to keep it’s shape. Then the body was oiled. Lots of bandages were wrapped tightly on the body. The reason why is so that the body wouldn't rot away. A priest always supervised the mummification process. The priest sent dead spirits to the next world. He touched the body with special instruments. The body was placed in a case, some were wooden others beautifully decorated. Important people such as the pharaoh were placed in a stone coffin.

Ancient Egypt

Walt: write an information report.
Ancient Egypt

Ancient Egypt lies east of Libya and west of Israel. This is where the earliest civilization begun.

The River Nile
The River Nile is 6,670km in length. It is the longest river in the world. The Nile flows into the Mediterranean Sea. Without the River Nile this civilization wouldn't exist. The River Nile was great for food. It provided fish and sustainable to grow crops. The River was good for travelling from place to place. Along side of the Nile was the papyrus reeds. These reeds were made into paper. The name Nile comes from the Greek word ‘nelios’, which means valley.

Mummification
Mummification is a process which a very important person such as the pharaoh, gets mummified. Ancient Egyptians believed in the dead. First all the organs were removed, all exempt the heart. Next the body was salted and dried. After that, cloth was stuffed inside the body to maintain it’s shape. Then the body was oiled. Lots of bandages was wrapped tightly around the body. The embalmers used cloth because to stop the body from rotting away. A priest always supervised this mummification process. The priest touched the body with special instruments. Afterwards, the body was placed in a coffin, some were wooden others were decorated. But an important person such as the pharaoh was placed in a stone coffin.

Contribution to time
The Egyptians noted that the rising of certain stars, such as Sirius and Orion, matched the first day of the 36 decades and called these stars decans. During any one night, a sequence of twelve decans would be seen to rise and were used to count the hours. It is the Ancient Egyptians who first divided the day 24 hours.

Jobs
There were many jobs in Ancient Egypt. A priest, scribe, Pharaoh, farmer, craftsmen were the most  popular jobs. A pharaoh is the ruler of all Egypt, his job was to please the gods so good fortune would get to Egypt. A scribe is a person who reads and writes for the Pharaoh. And a farmer is a grows crops.

A scribe in Ancient Egypt

Walt: write in paragraphs.
A scribe in Ancient Egypt

Today I am a scribe in Ancient Egypt . I am a  person who reads and writes for the pharaoh. I had to become a scribe because my father was one.

I started scribe school when I was only 6. My school was held in a Temple courtyard. I spent eight years studying hieroglyphs. I had to learn over 800 symbols. My desk was the floor. Papyrus was very expensive, so instead I had to write on broken pottery. I spent a lot of time remembering the hieroglyphs and symbols.

The tool I used is the reed brushes, white linen kilt, my wooden board that holds all my inks. I‘m inks by grinding coloured minerals into powder, then mixing with some liquid to apply on the papyrus easily.

My job is mainly keeping records and write and copy religious text. I live a wealthy lifestyle and highly respected everyday.

Scribes
1. The scribes’ main tool is called kalamos. This tool was made from six inch reed.

2. Ancient scribes used many colour inks from plants and minerals.

3. The scribes wrote while standing or kneeling. It wasn’t until 2000 BC that the scribes used the desks.

Papyrus
1. Papyrus was the first example of paper the scribes used instead of clay tablets. The clay was hard to transport and hard to write.

2. The papyrus was dated from 3000 BC, about the Egyptians began to write.

Hieroglyphics

My name in hieroglyphics.

Dabir the Donkey

Dabir the Donkey

In the beginning Dabir and his master had just stopped in Egypt. Dabir held loads of dates. When his master unloaded all the dates, Dabir  kicked a rock on the beehive and it burst open.  The bees were not happy with this and that is how the problem began.

While the bees were chasing Dabir, he ran around the pyramids. After  a few minutes the bees didn’t care and went back to their hive. After that it led to another problem. Not far from him, there were camels lying in the sun. Dabir started kicking sand on the camels’ eyes. The camels were started to get really fed up with Dabir and chased him Dabir ran around the pyramids seven times. But after a few minutes the camels did not care anymore and went back to lying in the hot sun. Later on it led to a further problem.  He felt bored and not far from him were some lazy crocodiles. So he just went and stood all over them. The first couple of times the crocodiles ignored it, but when kept on stepping on over them they got fed up and chased him. Dabir ran towards the steps on the pyramid, when he reached the top he noticed that the crocodile wasn’t behind him. He didn’t get all he wanted was to fun, but all he did was annoy everyone.

At the end, Dabir was so tired that when master loaded him up again, he fell flat the ground. The master pulled the rope tied to Dabir’s neck , he pulled three times. But Dabir ran and all the goods fell off him. The master got angry

Statuette of Isis

Statuette of Isis is an ancient Egyptian Myth

The characters are Ra, the sun god and Isis, a clever god. Ra had the power to create almost everything that existed today. Isis was jealous of Ra and his powers. She wanted it all for herself. So one day when Ra drooled Isis gathered it and created a serpent. By making this serpent herself Ra had no control of it. When Ra was walking up a flight of steps going towards the sun, the serpent stung him. By having not creating this beast Ra had no control of it. Isis had a cure for him but only if Ra told his secrets of his magic, Ra had no choice. So Ra transmitted the great magic to Isis’s heart.
