Character study

Walt: write a character essay.

Uncle Eru is an interesting character in “The argument”. He displays several qualities which make him an interesting character. Uncle Eru is ignorant. This is evident when he was addicted to drugs and alcohol, his koro tried to stop his addiction but he refused to listen. Uncle Eru is also strong mentally. We witness this when Uncle Eru gets injured in a motorbike accident, he lost his arm and had damaged legs. Also to top things off, he got accepted in a rugby academy. His dreams of becoming an all black have gone up the smoke. This essay will show that Uncle Eru possesses these two qualities just mentioned. This essay also how the events/examples just mentioned show unique qualities.

Walt: match the word to it's meaning.

Ernest Rutherford

Walt: use our research to write an essay on an inspirational person

My inspirational person is Ernest Rutherford. His father, James Rutherford and the mother, Martha Rutherford were originally from Horn church Essex in England.  He is a physicist and chemist, which basically concerned with nature and is all about the properties of energy and matter.

He studied at Havelock School and Nelson College, and also won a scholarship to study at Canterbury College. He won the Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts. He was a very intelligent man but  was very modest of his work and achievements.

I chose Ernest Rutherford for my inspirational person because he had incredible passion for science, which I could relate to because I really love science. Also he was very hard working at trying to split the atom which to me is very inspirational.

Jig

Weird
Walt: analyse the character in a story.

Jig is very uncomfortable with  her family living in a van. When her teacher told her mother, Min that she was coming to have dinner with them she was very anxious. So worried that she actually changed the van from a very interesting one of kind van into a very modern and clean environment. I think that Jig is actually ashamed of her van. I like it, it is very colourful and has things like pineapple curtains or leopard skin bedspreads. But at the end, Jig found out that the reason why her van was so different, is because it’s her family's van not anybody else’s. It’s her and her only. Jig is a girl that has a very cultural mother, who she is very ashamed of. So ashamed she’d change their van. Jig’s mother familiar with many international cultures. Min, Jig’s mum, cooks moussaka which is a Greek dish, she also wears saris which are Hindi clothing and owns a collection of instruments.

Pizza game

Walt: play the pizza game.

This game is really challenging for me because I had to make the orders in time so I can get more tips. It was good to have a change of games this week, because my teacher Mrs. Ramkolowan usually gave my group maths games like hooda maths.com or mathletics but she changed the games now. The easy part was just making the pizza. The hard part was getting the orders in time. This game can’t be more difficult than it is. I would like to get faster at the orders.

Multiplying fractions

Walt: multiply fractions.

This game was very complex. It tested my times table facts. The easy part was just multiplying the numerators and the denominators. The hard part was making the answer to it’s simplest form. What I want to learn next is multiply bigger fractions.

Addition of fractions

Walt: find fractions of fractions

I am figuring out what two sevenths plus one seventh equals. I was just noticing that both fractions have the same denominator, which means all I have to do is just the numerators. That equals three sevenths. I would like to practice on more on addition fractions that have different denominators.

Prevention is better than cure.

Walt: respond to the presentation given by the Public Health Department.

For this term our school is studying about skin and sore throats. Dr. Alison Leversha is a doctor at Starship Hospital and has had experience with skin issues and sore throats. She was talking about strep throat and how it leads to rheumatic fever if not treated.

The Warriors were also there. It was nice to have the warriors there because they  represent the sports community. They did  a little act when Sione Lousi didn’t want to say ‘Ahhh’

The interesting talk was by Awen Guthenbeil, a former kiwi league player who had rheumatic fever at the age of 9. He wanted to be ‘Mr. tough guy’ and hid it away from his parents. But afterwards he got so sick, that he couldn’t move. “ It was like I was paralyzed,” Awen Guthenbeil said. He got treatment which was 10 years of injections to the bottocks. However he continued to pursue his sporting career. Awen now regrets it.

Lastly to summarise, the message was “ If I have a sore throat, I’ll tell my parents”.

Moneywise

Walt: write a response to the talk by Evan.

Even since we had that talk with Evan it’s completely changed me, when I’m thinking about money. It has made me think more deeply about the right decisions with money. His personality made me pay more attention in the talk. He was very funny and entertaining but also serious at the same time. I have more knowledge about money now that I've had that chat with Evan. He had stories to tell to make his talk interesting. I’d give Evan great gratitude for the new knowledge of money.

Reflective symmetry

Walt: dragging the shapes in the correct column.

This activity is simple. It is basically just putting the shapes in the right box. The strategy was just imagine the line before you put it in the right box. I would recommend this activity for younger students, who are finding it hard to understand symmetrical lines.

Diggity

Walt: retell the story.

It was a frantic morning when Anna's parents were searching for the lid of the chilly bin. Mum was looking around the washing machine and saw a blue dish-like object. “I found it,” shouted Anna’s mum. “ It was behind the washing machine “. Outside, Diggity, their pet dog was sitting in the car his face outside the window. He was staring at a soggy biscuit that Lucy was eating. Finally, the family was packed and ready to go to the beach.

When they arrived, Ann’s Dad got the deck chairs out and planted himself down. Anna’s Mum grabbed a woman’s weekly magazine and sat on the other chair. Anna saw a two teenage boys playing and a girl sunbathing. There were not much people on the beach.

But suddenly Anna’s lost sight of Diggity. One minute he was digging furiously, and the next he was nowhere to be seen. A couple of minutes later, Anna’s dad caught sight of some commotion. Anna ran after him. She could forget that image of a two ton furry ball’s paw buried deep in the neck of Diggity. Bright blood streaks were on the creamy fur coat of Diggity. Anna’s dad collected a piece of driftwood and fiercely waggled it in front of the dogs face. But it didn’t work. He again got a bucket of water and threw it at the dog.

Moments later, the tides started coming in. The tides clung to dog and pulling it towards the sea. The dog at last, pulled away. After that Anna’s family quickly drove to the vets, and had Diggity checked out.
